Scouts BSA Merit Badge Week

About Specialty Week

Join us at Camp Snyder for our second annual Scouts BSA Specialty week! In 2021 Scouts earned over 500 Merit Badges during Specialty Week.

New for 2022 will be rank advancement skills training and knowledge instruction for obtaining Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. Perfect for new Scouts!

Camp Snyder has some amazing facilities. Among those are our Woodshop and our STEM facility, swimming pool, archery and air rifle ranges, and Scouterhorn climbing tower. We have created a Scouts BSA Specialty week with the activities Scouts expect from a summer camp. Want to earn your Woodworking or Woodcarving Merit Badge? Want to learn about Drones and spend some time in our STEM lab. Or, learn the basic Scouting skills needed to advance in rank, like how to start a fire, prepare an outdoor meal or safely use a knife and axe. Come out and spend a week of your summer with us.

Combine your interest in merit badges with camping, dining, swimming, boating, and many other summer camp favorites.

There are two attendance options: 1) You can stay at Camp Snyder all week and camp overnight or 2) You can choose to be a day-only participant and just stay for the merit badges and rank advancement sessions.

Meet your Directors

Camp Director Kevin Rock (back) & Program Director Mohammad Qadri (front)

Kevin is going on his 10th year on staff at Snyder. He started when the camp opened in 2006 and stayed until 2011 where he held various positions around the property (from Camp Clerk to Camp Photographer, and from Camp Medical Officer to Camp Business Manager). He returned in 2018 as the Summer Camp Director. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1995 and was bestowed the OA Vigil honor in 2008. He has earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Longwood University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Scouting where he continues to teach every year.  Outside the summer months he is an elementary school librarian for PWC public schools.

Mohammad has been coming to Snyder since he joined Scouting and has been working at the camp since 2016. He’s worked all over the camp from the Kitchen staff, to shooting sports and, for the past two years, the program director. Mohammad is an Eagle Scout and loves working with scouts of all ages and looks forward to staying safe and making a great program this summer.
